Why We Love What We Do

KC Exotic Air Plants was born from a simple curiosity that grew into a lifelong passion. Many years ago, Mr. Clark brought home a handful of air plants after a chance encounter with an older gentleman during a fishing trip. The two bonded over their mutual struggle to keep plants alive, and the man assured Mr. Clark that air plants were nearly impossible to kill—and that they could even bloom.

When those first five or six plants arrived, we had no instructions and no real idea how to care for them. I placed them in a clear Pyrex bowl in front of the picture window and, admittedly, only watered them every three months. Yet somehow, they lived.

That resilience sparked an obsession with growing and studying air plants, and in 1991, KC Exotic Air Plants officially took root.

Since then, we’ve shared our love of air plants with thousands of people, teaching care and cultivation across the United States. We’ve sold over half a million air plants at craft fairs, home and garden shows, state and county fairs, and have spoken and educated at numerous garden clubs along the way.
